Action Literacy and Action Numeracy
Action Literacy addresses speaking, listening, reading, viewing and writing skills which students must master to communicate
effectively in our highly literate society. These basic skills are addressed through direct instruction in areas such as
comprehension (literal, inferential and evaluation), grammar, punctuation, spelling, phonological and graphological knowledge, text
structures, listening skills, handwriting, desktop publishing and presentation skills, as well as proofreading and editing.
Action Numeracy lays the foundation for students to be effective users of mathematical tools by applying maths skills to everyday
life. These resources focus on the development of skills and strategies and address the mathematical content areas of number,
space, measurement, chance, data, patterns and algebra as well as working mathematically. Direct and strategy instruction includes
oral and written computation, number facts, counting and ordering, place value, number patterns, informal and formal units of length,
area, volume and capacity, time, statistics and graphs, 2D and 3D shapes, angles and positions.
